Description:
An established, Bristol based, small charity seeks new board members with experience in the social care sector
Cintre is a registered charity, providing residential care and supported living services to young people and adults with mild to moderate learning disabilities and special needs in and around Bristol. We were established in 1977 and have two residential homes (in Bristol and Clevedon) and a supported living outreach service (in Bristol).
Our vision is of a world where people with learning difficulties live as full and active members of society, leading lives as they have chosen to live them. We help achieve this by providing quality care and support services to people with learning and developmental disabilities. You can see more about us at www.cintre.org .
Our purpose is to maximise the independence of people with learning disabilities, aged 16 and over in Bristol and the surrounding areas. In a nutshell, to enable independence for those who use our services.
We are looking to strengthen our Board of Trustees and are seeking two people with recent social care management experience, either still practising or perhaps recently retired, in order to guide the oversight and development of our policy and to represent our service users. A commitment to excellence and the energy and enthusiasm to support and challenge colleagues are essential qualities in our board members.
Joining our Board will provide an opportunity to share in decisions with our young people and to support our development to a full personalisation agenda. This opportunity offers close liaison and mentoring with colleagues, managers and staff. The degree of involvement can be tailored to suit individual circumstances and the role is varied and rewarding.
For further information please contact David Gosling, Chair of Cintre Board by email at ds_gosling@hotmail.com or by phone on 07812593318

Minimum 10 hours per week - flexible
Description:
We’re a charity and could definitely use some help! We’ve always had lots of volunteers offering to help but have never had a proper process for taking on and managing them. VIP is our new Volunteering Scheme. We treat every application individually and are determined to make sure everyone gets something out of the volunteering process - the volunteer, the organisation and the young people we support.
We don’t want the role of managing volunteers to be tacked on to the end of someone’s job – we need someone who is dedicated to looking after (but not supervising) our volunteers.
It would be a great role for someone looking to develop management skills or someone with previous people management experience.
You'll be supervised, supported by and work closely with the Funding and Communication Officer doing the following sorts of things when needed:
- To assist with volunteer enquiries, recruitment and placements, including sending out application packs, helping shortlist and organising interviews.
- Co-ordinate appropriate induction and CRB checks
- Co-ordinate any reward/ accreditation schemes
- Help managers and volunteers to find the best placement
- To make sure that volunteers are getting adequate supervision from their supervisor
You’ll be coming in to our Head Office on Old Market, checking and responding to emails and messages, dealing with application packs and having quick catch up meetings with volunteers and your supervisor.
We need someone with strong organisational skills, with at least a basic working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. The role is all about people, so you’ll need to be happy working with lots of different people - in person, by email and on the phone.
How to Apply:
We have a Volunteer Application Pack, which includes information about us the VIP scheme and the work we do. It also contains an application form.

Volunteers need to attend an initial core training over several weeks run at weekends for the helpline and Tuesday daytime for TESS service. If successful they will then be offered a place on the service where they will commit for one year to work regular shifts, fortnightly on the helpline and weekly on TESS. Volunteers are also expected to attend regular supervision sessions to reflect on their experiences of the work and to continue to develop their skills.
Description:
BCSW runs national services based in Bristol supporting girls and women affected by self-injury. We are recruiting volunteers for both our helpline and our user friendly computer based text and email support service (TESS). The philosophy on both services is confidential person centered emotional support and we have found all mediums of phone, text and email to be very affective in offering this.
Both posts offer comprehensive, experiential training covering affective communication skills, and looking at various issues including working with people who self-injure, what is mental health and sexual abuse.
The experience of working on these services is found by many of our volunteers to be extremely satisfying and rewarding and gives a solid foundation into this type of work.
How to Apply:
Email or phone Jenny to enquire about working on TESS (text and email) or Sal to enquire about working on the helpline, or go to our website and download further information like dates and application form.
